Andropause in Men
What is Andropause
An
andropause which is also called androgen deficiency in aging male (ADAM), is a
health condition in male that result in the reduction of the active
testosterone which occure as men gradually ages.
Andropause can somehow be likened to menopause
in female but greatly differs in the sense that it only occure in male but
menopause is a health condition in female when they ceases to menstruate and
can no longer become pregnant which occure between the age of 45 and 60 years
but sometime as early as age 30, yet men experience a different type of
menopause life changes though some men never experience andropause but all
women experience menopause.
What Causes It?
It
usually result in aging, since a normal healthy man has a testosterone
300-1,200ng/dl (Nanogram per deceliter), the testosterone levels usually peaks
in age 20s, after age 30 the average man testosterone levels declines one per
cent each. That is to
say as men get older, the level of testosterone in the body and production of
sperm gradually becomes lower, and they experience physical and psychological
symptoms as a result of these low levels. This is part of the natural aging
process and it is estimated that testosterone decreases about 10% every decade
after men reach the age of 30.
Unlike women menopause that occure at a sudden. Hence men production of male
sex hormone (testosterone) diminishes gradually after age 40. And female menopause
on the other hand happens suddenly but andropause in male takes decades.
